USA Pro Challenge 2014

Doctor Robert, The Beatles tribute, was very fortunate to be invited to perform at two finishes of the 2014 Pro Challenge road bike race. The first performance was after Stage 2 in Mt. Crested Butte, the second was after Stage 3 at Monarch Mountain. Thanks to both LOC’s for having us, we’re honored to be part of the biggest cycling event in the U.S.

KAFM Grand Junction Radio Room

Doctor Robert, The Beatles tribute played three shows over the last two weekends of October, starting on October 17th at KAFM Grand Junction’s Radio Room. Thanks to KAFM for having The Doctor kick off their week of fundraising with a Beatles show, and thanks to all the enthusiastic fans that came out for the show. This was our first public performance in Grand Junction. We were scheduled to play two 45-minute sets, and ended up playing about double that amount, as requests kept coming in and no one was leaving the Radio Room. We look forward to returning to Grand Junction and KAFM Radio Room sometime in 2014.

The next night we played a local show in Gunnison for the Chamber of Commerce annual banquet and People’s Choice Awards. About 1700 people voted for 55 different “Best of…” awards, and Doctor Robert was voted “Best local band” in 2013. Thanks to everyone that voted for us, we know there are a lot of Doctor Robert fans in Gunnison and really appreciate the honor. Here’s the official photo after we accepted the award:

The following weekend we played at The Eagles Club of Glenwood Springs. The Eagles have an amazing venue with great sound, and the staff and members are as nice as can be. Thanks to all the fans that came out to enjoy a night with Doctor Robert, we enjoyed playing and are always happy to see some regular fans in attendance.

Our next shows are in the front range the weekend just before Thanksgiving. On 11/21, we’ll be playing our first show at Swallow Hill Music at 7:30 in the Swallow Hill Cafe. Check https://swallowhillmusic.org/concerts/buyTickets.cfm?id=1490 for more information about this intimate show in Denver.

11/22 brings us to Nissi’s Bistro for our first performance at this amazing venue in Lafeyette. We open for Doors Tribute Band, The Strange Parade, and our 90-minute set starts at 7:30. Check out http://www.nissis.com for information.

11/23 we return to the classic jamband venue, Quixote’s True Blue. This show will be a full two-set show, with some extra jams making their way into the show. Can’t play Quixote’s without taking a few songs deep into unknown spaces.

Check out http://www.DoctorRobertTribute.com for information our November shows as well as our exciting December holiday shows at The Black Nugget in Carbondale, Barkley Ballroom in Frisco, and Agave in Avon. Hope to see you sometime before 2014.

Paonia Mountain Harvest Festival

Doctor Robert, The Beatles tribute band from Crested Butte, Colorado, got back to playing live after a six-week break at Paonia’s Mountain Harvest Festival last weekend. What an amazing weekend of music, dancing, food, arts and crafts, and sunshine. After snowing and raining all week, the weather cleared up just in time for our performance on Saturday. Just like the sun, folks of all ages came out to Paonia’s town park to enjoy some Beatles music. Thanks to Margot and Mark for organizing such an amazing event, to Joe for putting together the great music lineup that filled the weekend, and to Rob for making our sound fill the park.

Here are some recordings from the afternoon at Mountain Harvest Festival in Paonia:

Doctor Robert brought it’s unique Beatles tribute to Boulder Beer and The Ute Theatre in Saguache last week, playing two different, fun shows for a mix of new fans and many that have seen us several times. Recordings from both shows can be found below.

Boulder Beer makes for a casual, laid-back atmosphere to play Beatles music, and is always a good time for Doctor Robert. The rains delayed our start time, but it cleared out early enough for our full two-set show. Thanks to everyone that made the performance in Boulder, we look forward to getting back as soon as we can. Here are several recordings from the show at Boulder Beer Company:

The Ute Theatre is an amazing little venue in the amazing little town of Saguache, Colorado. Every time we’ve played a show in the San Luis Valley, we’ve had the nicest people and some of the biggest Beatles fans turn out. This was no different, as we played over three hours of Beatles music for a very attentive and insprired audience. The energy was high at Ute Theatre, and we definitely felt the love from the crowd all night. We’re always inspired to perform at our best when we’re under the microscope like the show in Saguache, thanks to our many San Luis Valley fans that made the trip from Alamosa, Del Norte, Monte Vista, Crestone, and Saguache. Here are some recordings from the show at Ute Theatre:

It’s getting better all the time…”

People frequently ask us if we get tired of playing Beatles music all the time. Our Doctor Robert Beatles tribute project is truly an amazing experience, and we love playing this music all around Colorado. Not only is their catalog diverse, but the instrumentation and vocals always provide a challenge for every show, especially since we play 40-50 songs for a typical performance. The reaction we get from fans of all ages also helps keep the good energy within us. Our recent shows at Riverside Amphitheater in Salida, three20south in Breckenridge, and Boulder Beer in Boulder were perfect examples of the band/audience feedback loop. The more the crowd gets into our show, the more inspired we play. Thanks to everyone for the support over the last weekend of June, we can’t wait to return to all three venues. Black Nugget Carbondale

The Doctor Robert Beatles tribute band made it’s way to Carbondale last Saturday night to play the new and improved Black Nugget, this time without Karen. The Trio had a great time playing about 60 songs in about 3 1/2 hours, and had some fun breaking out some random Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Cream songs. By the end, we covered “Sweet Leaf” and “War Pigs” by Black Sabbath, “Gallow’s Pole” by Led Zeppelin, and “Crossroads” by Cream. Thanks to the Roaring Fork High School class of 2003 for coming to The Black Nugget for the after party, and for everyone else that came and made for a packed house full of Beatles fans. We can’t wait to make it back to Carbondale for the full Doctor Robert experience. Here are some recordings from the night:

Main in Motion — Montrose

Doctor Robert had a great time opening the Main in Motion weekly series in Montrose, CO last Thursday. Montrose has plenty of Bealtes fans, and we enjoyed playing downtown with the streets closed to traffic. A beautiful evening brought out people of all ages, and we were fortunate to have a good crowd for our entire set. Hopefully we’ll make our way back to the area sometime this fall for more Doctor Robert, The Beatles Tribute. Here are some recordings from the evening:

Ajax Tavern & Macky Auditorium

Last weekend was a whirlwind of amazing experiences for Doctor Robert, The Beatles Tribute. Friday, the Colorado spring weather held in Aspen and we were able to perform outside for a great après ski crowd at the Ajax Tavern. We’re always overwhelmed by the enthusiasm we receive from the good people in the Roaring Fork Valley. We were even invited to a home in Aspen to perform an acoustic set after our set at Ajax Tavern. Saturday, the band had an unforgettable 30 minute set playing at the Macky Auditorium Concert Hall on CU’s campus in Boulder, and shared the stage with members of Yonder Mountain String Band, The Head and the Heart, Rose Hill Drive, The Infamous Stringdusters, Hot Rize, West Water Outlaws and many others! We all decided this was undoubtedly the most amazing venue The Doctor has played since our formation in August, 2010. Sunday’s weather cancelled our 2nd show at the Ajax Tavern in Aspen, but we found a generous coffee shop that let us play an acoustic Beatle set to a wonderful audience. Thanks to everyone involved last weekend and to all of you live music supporters out there.

Here are several recordings from last Friday afternoon at Ajax Tavern, with a handful of photos below from our amazing Macky Auditorium experience.

Crested Butte Nordic Center

Doctor Robert performed two sets of Beatles music for the Crested Butte Nordic Center’s end-of-season party last week at Montanya Rum Distillery. Playing music in the old Powerhouse building with The Still as our backdrop: the copper pot, lentil, condenser, and many other components that produce the amazing rum at Montanya’s. Thanks to the Crested Butte Nordic Center for having us! This party was a “thank you” to the 500 season pass holders, the 300 Grand Traverse atheletes, and the volunteers that make everything come together so smoothly each year. This was the 26th year for the Nordic Center, and the 16th annual Elk Mountains Grand Traverse.

Our dear friend and expert with a camera, Xavier Fane (www.xavierfane.com), took some great photos of the evening, posted below. We also had local film crew, Two Plank Productions, taking some video of the show. Look for video footage in the coming weeks on our website. As always, we recorded the night of Beatles music. We played our first version of George Harrison’s “Something” from Abbey Road, as well as a tease of the ending to “You Never Give Me Your Money” also from Abbey Road. Check for the links below Xavier’s photos.

"It's Such a Feeling that My Love, I Can't Hide..."

"Catch you with another man, that's the end, little girl"

"Still my guitar gently weeps..."
